Cotton berets first adopted by the French Chasseurs Alpins in 1889, seen them being used in the first World War British General Hugh Elles proposed the Beret for use by the newly formed Royal Tank Regiment. This beret symbolises Military Authority and started being worn by the U.S Military in 1943.
