This Greek flag is great for all your March 25th celebrations!
This lovely blue and white flag may represent the blue of the sea and the white of her crashing waves, the wispy clouds against the sky or the beautiful coastlines around the Aegean Pelagos. The White cross in the corner signifies devotion to the Greek Orthodox Church, who during Ottoman Rule set up the Crypta Scholi or Hidden Schools to keep Greek cultural heritage, language and history alive. The nine blue/white stripes are said to represent the number of syllables in the phrase Eleutheria H Thanatos – Freedom or Death – the Battle cry during the final revolt against the Ottoman empire in 1821 after which the Hellenic Democracy was formed and this flag was adopted to represent this new found independence.
