This is an authorised (authorised by the Department of Defence) reproduction of the 5th Pattern Rising Sun Badge.  This pattern was issued to Australian Forces between 1966 and 1972.

Badge for slouch hats made of oxidised copper with imperial state crown with the St. Edwards crown and engraved writing along the bottom reading ‘AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES’ and a pin attachment. This RISING SUN BADGE was approved in 1954 and issued in 1966. Measurements to wear are 6.3cm long and 4.5cm wide.
