The red flag featuring a gold hammer and sickle underneath gold bordered star was the stage flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or the USSR. In Russian “Союз Советских Социалистических Республик” for which the abbreviation is CCCP.

This was the official flag from 1922 to 1991. Its origins lay in the Russian revolution, however it has become a modern day symbol for the communist movement where the use of red and yellow have influenced the flags of many communist countries around the world.
